War And Conflict

Kargil war By Air & Sea – NDTV special documentary Episode 1 of 2

The Kargil War, also known as the Kargil conflict, was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC). The cause of the war was the infiltration of Pakistani soldiers and Kashmiri militants into positions on the Indian side of the LOC, which serves as the de facto border between the two states. During the initial stages of the war, Pakistan blamed the fighting entirely on independent Kashmiri insurgents, but documents left behind by casualties and later statements by Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff showed involvement of Pakistani paramilitary forces, led by General Ashraf Rashid. The Indian Army, later on supported by the Indian Air Force, recaptured a majority of the positions on the Indian side of the LoC infiltrated by the Pakistani troops and militants. With international diplomatic opposition, the Pakistani forces were forced to withdraw from Indian positions along the LOC. The war is one of the most recent examples of high altitude warfare in mountainous terrain, which posed significant logistical problems for the combating sides. This was only the second direct ground war between any two countries after they had developed nuclear weapons, after the Sino-Soviet border conflict of 1969; it is also the most recent. (India and Pakistan both test-detonated fission devices in May 1998, though the first Indian nuclear test was conducted

Q&A: How do I find people who served in the Korean War/Conflict?

War and Conflict
by US Army Korea – IMCOM

Question by lindz: How do I find people who served in the Korean War/Conflict?
My Grandfather will be turning 80 this year and I am trying to give him a gift that would mean a lot to him. He served in the Korean War/Conflict and I was thinking I would like to contact his “old war buddies” and invite them to his party. I figured the best way was through war records and such, but I don’t really know how to go about doing this! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What is an interesting current war or conflict that I can write about?

Question by **ShootingStar**: What is an interesting current war or conflict that I can write about?
I just want a war/conflict that I can write about that isn’t too long to explain – it has to be quite a short homework, just where it is and why they are fighting. Not too complex please!

Thank you!
