The three-story house had at least 68 rooms. The entrance hall was 60 feet (18 metres) long and 40 feet (12 metres) wide where family heirlooms were displayed. The main reception rooms were on the first floor rather than more typically on the ground floor.
King George IV was the guest of Richard Wingfield, fifth Viscount Powerscourt in August 1821. Mervyn Wingfield, seventh Viscount Powerscourt inherited the title and the Powerscourt estate, which comprised 49,000 acres (200 km²) of land in Ireland, at the age of 8 in 1844. When he reached the age of 21 he embarked on an extensive renovation of the house and created new gardens.
Inspiration for the garden design followed visits by Powerscourt to ornamental gardens at the Palace of Versailles, Schönbrunn Palace near Vienna, and Schwetzingen Palace near Heidelberg. The garden development took 20 years to complete in 1880.
Main attractions on the grounds include the Tower Valley (with stone tower), Japanese gardens, winged horse statues, Triton Lake, pets cemetery, Dolphin Pond, walled gardens, Bamberg Gate and the Italian Garden. Once available to tourists, but currently inaccessible, is the Pepperpot Tower said to be designed after a favored 3" pepperpot of Lady Wingfield. Of particular note is the pets cemetery, whose tombstones have been described as "astonishingly personal".
On a commanding hilltop position Richard Cassels deviated slightly from his usual sombre style, to give the house something of what John Vanbrugh would have called the ‘castle air’, a severe palladian facade terminated by two circular domed towers.
In the 1830s, the house was the venue for a number of conferences on unfulfilled Bible prophecies, which were attended by men such as John Nelson Darby and Edward Irving. These conferences were held under the auspices of Theodosia Wingfield Powerscourt, then the dowager Lady Powerscourt.
The house was destroyed by fire on 4 November 1974 while it was owned by the Slazenger family, and was subsequently renovated in 1996.
The house was used as a filming location in the 2002 film, The Count of Monte Cristo, and, more famously, in Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, which was filmed there before the 1974 fire.
Powerscourt House is the ancestral home of the fictional Francis Lord Powerscourt in David Dickinson’s series of novels about the victorian detective (Goodnight Sweet Prince, Death And The Jubilee, Death Called To The Bar).

CPL. Michael Perry has been rejected composed during a military operation near the village of Musa Qala Doghaka in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on November 6, 2010. Three of his team and the first battalion of the annexes, 8 Marines, Bravo Company, 2nd team participated in the ambush in an activity that is designed to penetrate enemy lines to force the rebels, and, or well pursue, kill or capture them in battle.

NCPTT’s Andy Ferrell discusses bousillage at the NPS Preservation Community Fair. At this booth, participants learned bousillage techniques and uses, and participated in a hands-on bousillage demonstration.

The fair consisted of different sections such as wood window repair, stone grave marker cleaning, natural disaster information, a bousillage demonstration, landscape maintenance, and cane river heritage information. Exposition Révélations (Petit Palais)

L’exposition totalement numérique d’une quarantaine de chefs-d’oeuvre de la peinture classique et moderne, présentée au Petit Palais jusqu’au 17 octobre 2010, est en réalité une extraordinaire démonstration du savoir-faire technologique du coréen Samsung.

Une formidable opération publicitaire subtile et impressionnante de qualité, tant pour la restitution animée des oeuvres que des couleurs ou même (il fallait oser) du relief pour deux tableaux restitués habilement en 3D.

A ce sujet, la plus belle réussite me semble être l’animation en 3D de la toupie du tableau de Chardin "L’enfant au toton", une oeuvre de 1738. Le jouet se met à tourner très subtilement sous les yeux du visiteur !

Sans jamais dépasser la ligne jaune du gadget technologique, l’exposition parvient à ses fins. Les écrans LED de Samsung ont atteint des sommets de perfection CQFD.

Et en plus l’exposition est gratuite !

Santiago is such an important pilgrimage destination because it is considered the burial site of the apostle, James the Great. During the Middle Ages, the route was highly travelled. However, since then, the route has attracted a growing number of modern-day pilgrims from around the globe. The route was declared the first European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe in October 1987; it was also named one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in 1993.

What you read below is not mine. In theory, Doug Copp. My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the Centre International Rescue Team (ar), the worldwide team of rescue experience. The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake. I crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and am a member of many rescue teams from many different countries. I was a UN expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years. I have worked in every World Cup since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters. The first building ever crawled inside of a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Each child had the table. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. It could have gone to bed together at tables in the hallways. It was obscene, unnecessary and I wondered why children do the corridors. I do not know at the time the children were told to hide under something. In short, when buildings collapse, the maximum weight of objects to remain or furniture inside crushes these objects, when space or a blank space next to them. This space is what I call the “triangle of life.” Higher than the target, stronger, less compact. Least the object compacts, the largest gap, the greater the likelihood that a person who uses this security does not exist, do not be offended. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, the “triangles” you see have formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common form, we see that the building collapsed. Earthquake Safety Tips 1) Most everyone who simply “ducks and covers’ when buildings collapse are crushed to death. The people who get under objects like desks or cars, are crushed. 2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in fetal position. It should also be an earthquake. It’s a natural instinct for survival. You can find a small hole. Get next to an object, next to the couch next to a large lump that can crushed but leave the next to be null and void. 3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves into force of an earthquake. If the building does collapse, large survival null is created. In addition, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. brick buildings into bricks. Bricks cause many injuries but less squashed bodies of concrete slabs. 4) If you’re in bed at night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the year.
